Unlike many others, this course is designed specifically for you. After an initial assessment, your program is tailored to your own needs, tackling aspects such as: the vowels and consonants that you pronounce differently; words and syllables that you stress incorrectly; difficult relationships between words in connected speech and the essential rhythm and melody of Standard British English.
Who is an English pronunciation course for?
The course is designed for non-native as well as regional native speakers of English, who wish to soften, modify or reduce their accent towards Standard Southern British English (RP). Participants must be over 18 with a medium to good level of spoken English.
How do received pronunciation lessons work?
Identify the specific vowels and consonants that are different to your habitual pronunciation and learn how to achieve the native sounds by understanding the differences in the lengths of sounds, tongue positions and shapes of the lips.
Improve your self-awareness and ability to imitate. This will help you to identify (hear and feel) differences in pronunciation and make it possible for you to change your own.
Clarify the words and syllables that you stress mistakenly. Gain an awareness and understanding of weak syllables and weak forms, which will enable you to take on the essential rhythm and melody of Standard British English.
Achieve greater ease, confidence and clarity in Standard British English pronunciation through imitation and repetition.
Increase your understanding of the patterns between the written and spoken word to help you integrate your new skills into live speech.
Integration into Live Speech - by identifying the typical language, speaking style and situations in which you most need these new skills, Paul will guide you towards speaking with ease, fluency and confidence.

The one thing I appreciate most is that I really hadn't hoped that dropping the accent (or at least sounding more fluent) was in my reach at all.
The most noticeable side-effect after taking the course has been that the second question when talking to a new person isn't "where are you from?" anymore, which, trust me, can get quite repetitive.

On completion of 'The Essentials' course, this 'Advanced' course enables you to master the differences in intonation between your own accent and a Standard British English accent.
'...it's not what you say, but the way you say it'
It's great to be able to pronounce words more like a native, but do you sound like a native in the way you speak? Communicating with clarity and confidence is as much to do with vowels and consonants as it is to do with stressing the right word in the right way - or else a question can sound like a statement, a statement like a question, and all the nuances in between! Paul will enable you to identify your specific intonation patterns and will then help you to achieve the subtleties of tone and modulation in order to perfect your Standard British English.

How do these pronunciation courses work?
Identify the specific ways to stress a syllable or word in Standard British English. And Refine the way in which you use pitch to infer meaning or convey feeling by understanding which words in a phrase or sentence to inflect.
Clarify the technical elements of intonation: the role of monosyllabic and polysyllabic words; patterns in two syllable verbs, nouns and adjectives and compound words; primary and secondary stressed syllables; weak/unstressed syllables and weak forms.
Improve your accuracy in pronouncing and stressing words with prefixes and suffixes.
Achieve greater ease, confidence in expressing yourself fully in British English through imitation and repetition.
Learn about the flow and fluency of your speech by understanding the use of the linking R, intrusive consonants and use of assimilation and elision. And Perfect your use of rhythm to help clearly phrase your thoughts.
